For years, women have been fighting to be seen as equal to men. Congress passed the 19th amendment on the 18th of August 1920, The amendment states “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.” With the women’s suffrage starting in the 1820s after African American men were given the right to vote when President Lyndon B. Johnson passed the 15th amendment. It caused an uproar among the women of America. Later in 1849 on the 4th of June, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott organized a convention called the Seneca Falls convention which started it all. Almost a century later, it has been proven that changes will be made in America if women stand up and rise together. As we begin this new decade with such glorious news, it informs us that hope is shining through and women will get what is rightfully theirs. 📷
