Civil war has erupted between the conservative and liberal sectors in May of 1926.

U. S. Marines conducted successful counterinsurgency operations, established a non-partisan national guard (Guardia Nacional in Spanish), and made sure that free and fair elections occured.
Marines were sent ashore in Nicaragua to stop the civil war and to protect American lives and American economic interests. The Marines assured that both parties were disarmed and established a non-partisan national guard that would support elections and counter the armed Liberal General, Augusto Sandino.
Augusto Sandino, is a Nicaraguan revolutionary and leader of a rebellion that wishes to counter the peaceful and democratic U.S. occupation of Nicaragua.
