The historic Norwegian capital has changed its name. The former name of Christiania has now been changed to Oslo.
After the city was consumed by a fire in the 1600s, a new city was built closer and named Christiania in the king's honor of Christian IV of Denmark.
The city's name was spelled Kristiania between 1877 and 1897 by state and municipal authorities.
The original name of the city before Christiania was Aslo (which is close to the name that it currently has).
The city was named Oslo by a law of 11 July 1924, effective 1 January 1925. The change was proposed in 1918 by 29 civil servants.
Christiania will now and possibly forever be dubbed Oslo.
